LONDON MAYOR HOPEFUL TEAMS UP WITH CAT

November 22, 2013

DW-051JUST in case you had not have noticed, it is that festive time of year when everyone trots along to a pantomime.

With such a choice it can be difficult, but for sheer class, spectacular sets and costumes, look no further than the professionals at the Queen’s Theatre in Hornchurch.

Celebrating its 60th anniversary, the Billet Lane theatre has a long and much respected history of quality and being the place where magic happens nightly.

This year the professional company, Cut to the Chase’, bring Dick Whittington to town with his cat.

Written by Nicholas Pegg and directed by Bob Carlton, rehearsals are being finely tuned as you read this, but be prepared for the onslaught which starts from Saturday November 30 and runs unabated until Saturday January 11.

Bob Carlton’s productions are always bright and brash and are like the feeling you get after nibbling a giant bar of chocolate down to the wrapper in one night.

Featuring a stellar list of favourite actors, the welcome return of Sarah Scowen and Sam Kordbacheh, add to the mix of Simon Jessop, Lauren Brown, Elliot Harper, Sam Pay and Alison Thea-Skot, and I know he will forgive but the cherry on the top is new theatrical ‘apprentice’ all the way from the theatre’s youth group. Samuel Ward-Smith, veteran of Community Plays, and scores of other productions for schools and with local groups.

Not only do we have the hero, but Sarah the Cook, the beautiful Alice, King Rat and Fairy Bow Bells who throws fairy dust around like confetti so you may need your umbrella.

Tickets are from £12.50 to £26.50 with discounts for groups and families. Call the box office on 10708 443333 or visit http://www.queen-theatre.co.uk
