FLY TIPPING CHAMPIONSHIPS IN ROMFORD BECOMING AN OLYMPIC SPORT

May 16, 2014

Garden rubbish Haysoms Close May 16 (2)IF it were not so sad, it might even be funny, but the dark side of fly tipping is spreading like a plague in the back roads of Romford.
Nowhere is apparently safe, but the formation tipping team have located a spot in central Romford where they think they can ‘tip’ lob, or generally throw out of the car door with impunity.
Haysoms Close just off North Street is a service road, but more importantly an access road to an elderly complex. Beautifully tree lined and peaceful, the road furniture was given the addition of two builders heavy bags brimming with rotting garden waste and general refuse on Friday May 16. The bag colours do not blend into the beauty of close, particularly as they have been dumped in the road causing an obstruction to traffic. There is another possibility, that of developing a new breeding ground for all the nasty little micro bacteria just waiting to spread airborne and into a ready targets of elderly hosts living a few yards away.
it could be said that this dangerous element would inhibit it becoming an recognised Olympic sport. Also the athletes go out of their way to shun publicity as their reward is a sponsorship of a hefty fine.
It does raise the question is a fine enough for the sport contains certain elements of social understanding? Classes in tipping management would go some way, particularly a class in generous donations of rubbish ‘tipped’ lobbed or thrown over the athlete and his or her residence, whatever field it may be.

The connection with ‘dispersal, is not lost particularly for those members of the Fly Tipping Team, who have no standards concerning location. Regretfully the champion relied upon by residents of central Romford, Cllr Andrew Curtain, has been deselected thus losing a wealth of experience and a long and noble history of service to the community. It is to be hoped that he will be returned to that august body later this month as an independent.
Is it time then that we give this sport and its contestants the oxygen they are depriving residents in the format of public exposure through a camera? Though CCTV will never hit the big screen or even be the start of an off-the-wall series like The Only Way Is Essex, it will make their pockets lighter as the long arm social reckoning grabs them by the throat.
